Being successful in this industry is pretty simple when one acknowledges that there are infinite things to learn and has the humility to realize that there are always more skilled and smarter individuals operating in the same space.
Why start an “about me” section by admitting that there are others who are smarter and more skilled in the disciplines that I have dedicated myself to for the last 15 years? Pretty simple, really. In an industry that is over saturated with hot takes, snake oil sales, and egocentric posturing, I endeavor to stay grounded in some universal truths:
“No one has all of this figured out, aspiring to learn is not a weakness, transparency and accountability rule the day, and failing fast is more than just an agile catchphrase.”
Over the last 15+ years, I have designed security solutions and architectural strategies, performed penetration tests, performed risk and controls assessments, developed and implemented IT and cybersecurity assurance programs, been a trusted advisor to senior executives, and presented at various industry conferences and universities. I have learned a lot about what works, what does not, what scales, how to overcome those who are averse to change, and why there seems to be so much fear in being transparent.
“The most enriching experiences that I have in my career are from sharing my background with others and helping them take on their individual challenges one step at a time.”
